World renowned, most revered and spectacular Ganga Aarti

As the sun sets down, the conch shells blow, the drums beat, the cymbals clang, the bells ring, the singers clear their throats and the priests get set in various choreographic postures to perform a spectacular ceremony.

Yes, the situation is perfectly set for the most spectacular ceremony performed every evening - Ganga Aarti in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Varanasi.

Rivers in India are considered as the country's lifeline. The Ganga Aarti is performed as a reverence to Mother Ganges who is considered as India's lifeline.

The Ganga aarti is performed on a daily basis by well trained young priests dressed uniformly on a dais beginning with incense sticks, Dhoopa and then proceeding to variety of huge lamps. The movement of the lamps is perfectly synchronized amongst all the priests to the rhythmic chants of mantras and aarti songs glorifying Mother Ganga. Post arati, a bunch of split flowers are offered to Ganga Maa to add to the reverence.

The final and the most important ritual in the aarti is of paying obeisance to the river. This indicates the humility of humans as a mark of respect to the river that we are indebted to her for her incessant flow of water for the livelihood of all the living beings benefiting from her. The other aspect of paying obeisance is the spiritual aspect of paying obeisance onto her is to seek forgiveness from her for any offenses and mistakes committed while performing the sacred ceremony.

Witnessing the Ganga Aarti is not only a visual retreat but it is also spiritually enlivening to the soul. The positive vibes emanated from the vicinity by the conjugal of blowing conch shells which dispel the negativity accumulated from one's mundane routine, the bell sound penetrating the ears constantly, the sweet voice of the singer who sings the glories of Mother Ganga, the choreographic moves of the priest, the ever enchanting drum sound and the blazing fire of the aarti which burns the stress gathered over years are sure to develop devotion unto Ganga Maa. One can soak themselves in the soul stirring ceremony and be sure to be mesmerized. If an enthusiast plans well ahead to witness the aarti, the evening would be well utilized amidst the cool breeze blowing around and capturing the pixels with their natural cameras.

The Ganga Aarti is performed at Dashwamedh Ghat at Varnasi, Parmarth Niketan Ashram at Hrishikesh and Har-ki-pauri at Haridwar.

Devotees willing to perform aarti themselves, can buy or get a cup made of leaves (dona) with some pure clarified butter (desi-ghee), a lit cotton wick dipped in ghee with a bunch of flowers decorating the dona. This cup can be offered as aarti and let it flow in the river. (Not to worry the remnants are cleaned).

The best way to behold the gorgeous ceremony is from a boat on the river.
My favourite stands the Aarti at Dashwamedh Ghat in Varnasi.

A long cherished Dream

Graduation Day is the day that I had dreamt about. I personally never thought I would ever graduate, but here I am. Every single one of us worked so hard to get here. I never thought I would be up here on this day, but dreams do come true. As nervous as I was standing behind the podium, I was also joyful and proud to share my experience with you all. About five years ago in a boutique, I happened to meet my school teacher who is now currently the Principal of Sindhi High School, Hebbal branch – Mrs. Maitreyi Satyadev Ma’am. As we reminisced our good old days, she motivated and encouraged me to take up a graduate program in a field of my choice. I was relatively settled in my career then, with a permanent job in the World's Best Bank’ and 'Best Place to Work' - HSBC with a handsome package.  However, as days passed by, my teacher’s meeting that day had given me a lot of food for thought; that meeting was lingering me by giving me sleepless nights about whether I want to ...

Ray of Hope

Ray of Hope   As the planet is currently engulfed by the Wuhan virus, majority of the activities have come to a stand-still, and some of the industries have transformed their work culture. As an individual whether one is affected or not with the situation, one must take the stand-still as an opportunity and not as a setback. The below image clearly depicts the current situation the world’s population is currently experiencing. Until the fag end of CE 2019, activities around us were executed as planned, just like the bright sun shining in the sky in the image-bearing as a torchlight for our routine. Then the lab-originated virus struck the globe, which appeared as dark clouds to many while they lost path in their life. However, one’s determination must be exactly like the hawk in the sky who finds a prospect to fly above the dark clouds. An opportunist’s current situation is depicted aptly in this picture; they see the dark clouds as a chance to soar higher by taking co...

Gandhiji's 7 principles relevant even today

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi is well renowned worldwide for his various ideologies. From his non-violence ideology to Ahimsa, from Swabalambi to cleanliness. All of his teachings were not only relevant during his era, but are pertinent even today. With the following few principles of Gandhiji, I present to you, their relevance applicable even today and in the future times to come.  1.  Cleanliness is next to Godliness This is the primary and the basic principle MK Gandhi preached. Whereas, this principle is not only applicable to a certain era but appropriate for every single day in the centuries to come. With the cleanliness matter, our current Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi Ji launched the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign on the birth anniversary of MK Gandhi thereby dedicating it to him. Under this initiative, there have been several projects taken up by the state governments and the central government like ‘Namami Gange’ to realize the dual purposes of effective cut of pollution...
